New policy over US-visa application in Yemen
[01/April/2008]

SANA'A, April 01 (Saba) - The US embassy in Sana'a has begun applying a new measure preventing the Yemeni citizens who chew qat from traveling to the Untied states of America.

According to the policy, those Yemeni people who want to visit the US should have given up eating qat for at least three years.

The US embassy will ask the visa applicants to provide medical examination notes that prove they have been stopping this bad custom to make sure they are eligible for US visas.

In 1973 the World Health Organization listed Qat as a "dependence producing drug", although it is not considered as addictive drug.
