Yemen to celebrate International Women Day
[25 February 2008]

SANA'A, Feb. 25(Saba) - The National Committee for Women will celebrate in Sana'a on 8 March the International Women's Day in participation of national and international organizations.

The event will focus on a draft amendments of laws relation to women rights in various aspects of life.

Yemen was ranked 128th in the latest Global Gender Gap Report 2007 among the World countries that have the smallest gap between male and female.

The report said that Yemen has enabled to bridge 45% of the gender gap between men and women in domains of economy, policy and education during 2007.

According to the report, the country that has the smallest gender gap was the country
that acquired the most number of points.

The Global Gender Gap Index, introduced by the World Economic Forum last year, is one such framework. It aims to be a tool for benchmarking and tracking global gender-based inequalities on economic, political, education- and health-based criteria.
