President holds meeting with Hodeidah officials, local council members

HODEIDAH, (Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh held a meeting on Monday with officials of Hodiedah governorate and members of local council, executive offices and commercial chamber as well as representatives of the governorate in the parliament.

In his speech, President Saleh pointed out to efforts of the Coastguard to evacuate and rescue soldiers who were in the island of Jabal al-Tair of the Red Sea.

He also noted that the current increase in wheat price is international and the government, represented by Ministry of Industry and Trade, is trying to control matter.

Moreover, Saleh talked about the political and economic reforms, especially his recent initiative of political changes, saying that the initiative has been introduced to parties and civil society organizations and to be introduced to public for discussion and presenting viewpoints.

He said that those reforms would enhance local governance and give it further authorizations.

As for pensioners situation, President said that the issue of retired security and military personnel has been tackled , making it clear that demonstrations are a constitutional right but if there is any, it should be permitted by the government.

He said that democracy helps in reducing corruption, renewing his call on parties for dialogue within the national principles.

"Interests of the nation come on top of all and are away from any partisan or personal interests," Saleh concluded.
