GPC's 2nd round minutes emphasizes substance of opposition constructive role
[26/August/2007]

SANA'A,  (Saba)- The General People's Congress (GCP) Permanent Committee stressed, in its final minutes of the 2nd round held here on August 25-26, significance of the constructive role of the opposition parties as they are regarded as the other component of power.

The committee called upon all political forces to realize the national responsibility towards various issues that harm national principles, social and democratic morals and the public interest.

It reaffirmed the GPC's assertion to underpin the democratic approach and political reforms which have been endorsed by President Ali Abdullah Saleh, in addition to the importance to amend local authority law by electing heads for the governorates and districts local councils to expand their financial and administrative privileges.

The meeting, chaired by President Saleh, underscored the fact that the government should give special priorities to the agricultural and fisheries sectors and maintain implementing agricultural and rural development programs.

Improving press freedom and journalists situations, reinforcing the GPC's relations with the regional and international organizations, speeding up president's directives of expanding generation of energy, enhancing industrial zones and establishing technical institutes were also thrashed out in the meeting.

Furthermore, the committee highly valued the viable role of security and armed forces and loyalists in confronting Houthis revolt of Saada.
