President chairs meeting over current economic, developmental, security situations
[21/August/2007]

SANA'A,  (Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh chaired Tuesday a meeting over evaluating the present economic, developmental and security situations and reviewing the government plans to improve its performance.

The meeting addressed president's directives to the government which include a set of aims and tasks and a time limit to execute those goals.

"The government work is an integrated system and every authority should shoulder its definite responsibilities to execute the electoral program of the government which has become a national practical program." Saleh said, adding that it also should focus on the resulting effects of the international general price hikes.

President's directives ask the government to improve the governmental administration, reform banking system, restudy monitory policy, bolster investment mechanisms, keep on developing and modernizing judiciary, better life standards of the government employees and retirees, complete reviewing local authority law in order to extend privileges of local councils and improve their financial sources, implement economic policies which would motivate the economic growth and create job opportunities, direct technical education and vocational training to prepare skilled workforce required in the local markets, increase participation of the agricultural and fisheries sectors in achieving food safety, double efforts to establish industrial and commercial zones, reinforce dialogue with civil society and human rights organizations, boost defense and security machineries, open more offices for immigration and passports in the Yemeni embassies and improve and execute a complete plan to merge with economies of the GCC states.

He called upon the government to prioritize implementing tasks and invest pensions funds to encourage local investments and contribute to creating job chances and resolving housing insufficiency.

As for executing the 3rd phase of the National Strategy for Salaries, president underlined the importance of accelerating fulfilling requirements of this phase which was approved by law No. 43 for 2005.

He also directed ministries of social service and insurance, interior and defense to start working on employment new IDs with fingerprint and photo.

Saleh got acquainted with a governmental report over procedures it implemented in all areas under challenges it faces.
