HR minister calls for special care for female prisoners
[10/July/2007] SANA'A, July 10 (Saba)- Minister of Human Rights Huda al-Ban called Monday for offering special care for female prisoners.

In a workshop on supporting Yemeni female prisoners, al-Ban encouraged measures of creating means to enable female prisoners to earn money to improve their life and merge once again into the society, adding that such a workshop reflects concern with the
female prisoners' condition and rights.

Brigadier Ali al-Akhsha, chairman of Prisons Authority affirmed the importance of setting up special jails for women where they could receive knowledge and training to enable them to integrate in the society after release.

Acting delegate of International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) Kasandra Fartell said that the aim of the training program of female prisoners is to qualify them to reintegrate in the society, making it clear that the program would be implemented this year in Sana'a and Saada governorates.

The workshop was organized by the ICRC in cooperation with Yemeni Red Crescent Society with 52 female trainers from nine governorates.
