Presidential, local elections next September 20
[27 July 2006] SANA'A, July 27(Saba)- President Saleh called all Yemenis registered in voter lists to vote in the coming presidential and local elections on
September 20.

The presidential decree No. 15 for 2006 set Wednesday the 20th of September, 2006 as the date for both elections.

On the other hand, president Saleh headed a meeting with senior officials in the National Defense Council on Wednesday.

Official sources said the council discussed "the security plan to secure the upcoming elections." Sources said that the council decided to make
the day of voting "day free of arms".

The first local elections took place in February 20, 2001 and the first presidential elections, after making Yemeni unification in 1990, was held
in September 1999.
