GPC, JMP sign minutes of their representatives for preparing national dialogue
[29/يوليو/2010]

SANA'A, July 29(Saba)– The General People's Congress (GPC) and the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) signed on Thursday a minutes including names of their representatives in the joint committee for preparing the national dialogue.

The minutes, signed by the GPC's Assistant Secretary-General for Regulatory Affairs Sadiq Amin Abu Ras and the Acting Head of the JMP Ahmed Haidar, includes announcing the names of 200 representatives of the two sides in the joint committee for preparing the national dialogue under their previous agreements.

According to the minutes, any side has the right to replace no more than 10 percent of its representatives in the committee.

The minutes also included the continuation of following up the release of the remaining political detainees under the President's pardon in his speech on the National Day, May 22.

After signing the minutes, Abu Ras expressed his hope that the committee would contribute to achieve the desired goals and establish the bases for the dialogue programs and holding the parliamentary elections on schedule.

"Yemen belongs to all and we have to move together to implement the agreement of last February and its major points for preparing the parliamentary elections on schedule", Abu Ras said.

Abu Ras stressed the dialogue between the two sides would take into account the national constants, and would not affect the constitutional institutions' work in applying the rule of law and that all participants in the committee from both sides are Yemenis .. He warned of the attempt by some to fish in troubled waters.

For his part, Haidar consider the formation of the committee equally from both sides is a practical and serious step for the success of any coming dialogue, especially that it included a number of prominent national figures, who are able to exchange different points of view and to offer useful solutions and proposals to address the situations and challenges facing Yemen.

The pointed out that the power and the opposition should feel the national responsibility and be aware of the dangers facing the country and work together honestly and openly to resolve them away from the political jockeying.

It is noteworthy that on July 17 the GPC and JMP signed on July 17 a joint minute to carry out February agreement of 2009, under sponsorship of President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

According to the minute, the two sides agreed to give a chance for all political parties and civil society organizations to discuss constitutional amendments on the political and electoral system of the nation. The two sides also agreed to meet in order to determine their representatives in a joint committee for preparing the national dialogue.

Moreover, the minute stated that the two sides should comply with decisions of the committee, and the meetings of the committee would be broadcasted for public.
